The Mission
Raymond and Delores Hopfinger, proudly farmed their land in Port Clinton, Ohio for over 35 years. Lorraine Zimmerman promised her parents before they died, that she would not let their 80 acres of farmland fall into the wrong hands. And so, in 2016, the Hopfinger Zimmerman Memorial Park was created as a free, safe, and beautiful space for families to enjoy on the land her family had tended and looked after for decades.
Lorraine and her husband Jack have excavated the land, installed walking trails, dug ponds, built a bridge and planted trees to beautify this public space. They've been able to expand the park with the help of generous donations to create a two acre fenced dog park, purchase playground equipment and pedal boats for the swimming pond, and construct a 40 x 60 pavilion. Basketball and pickleball courts, a large sledding hill, ice skating rink, fishing pond, and other amenities quickly followed. The park looks to expand by adding soccer fields, frisbee golf, and additional paved parking lots. All future donations will be used for these projects.
The park has become a popular destination for local families. On a first-come, first-serve basis, people have held wedding receptions, birthday parties, family reunions, and more! They plan to host concerts, a fundraiser auction to help fund the park and will always keep the park free for all to enjoy.
